Nanovoids

Uniformly oriented, ellipsoidal nanovoids in glass created by electric-field-assisted dissolution of metallic nanoparticles

In this paper we report on holes which remain after dissolving metallic nanoparticles embedded in glass. The characterisation of the samples is done by Small Angle X-ray Scattering, which allows to draw quantitative conclusions on the size of the particles/holes. If the initial particles are ellipsoids, the holes retain the orientation, albeit the aspect ratio undergoes a slight relaxation. We also speculate about the processes happening during dissolution.
